ITU ARC
Program Agenda & Details
The event series commenced with welcoming participants and opening remarks, followed by a seminar focused on sustainability in aviation and an interactive session.
After the lunch break, student-focused workshops at Istanbul Technical University Aerospace Research Center (ITU ARC). Subsequently, a sustainability-themed board game designed by TSAA was introduced, allowing student groups to compete. Finally, a survey was conducted to gather student feedback. Below is a summary of the event's structure and activities:
Total Participants: 391 Students
391 students from 6 secondary schools and 2 vocational high schools at the K-12 level participated in the series of events organized within 9 months, supported by 15 members from ITU ARC have contributed. To enhance interaction, students were divided into five groups, enabling them to benefit from diverse perspectives, foster social engagement, and strengthen teamwork skills.
Opening
The event began with the welcoming of participants and an opening speech by the TSAA coordinator, Prof. Hülya Cebeci, or the administrative coordinator, Dr. İpek Ösken. Participants were informed about the event agenda and expectations were shared.
Sustainability and Aviation Seminar
During the seminar, TSAA project experts provided students with information about:
The history of flight, fundamental aviation concepts, and flight principles,
The concept of sustainability, environmental impacts, and sustainable choices,
The concept of sustainability in the aviation sector, objectives, current challenges, and proposed solutions.
The seminar actively encouraged student participation and concluded with a Q&A session.
Interactive Activity on Sustainable Development Goals
During the event, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations for building a better future were discussed. To make the session more engaging, each student received a number upon entering. These numbers were randomly selected during the event, and the student with the drawn number was invited to answer questions about a specific goal. This interactive method helped students gain a deeper understanding of the SDGs while also sparking their curiosity and encouraging them to share ideas. Moreover, the engaging format sparked their interest and encouraged them to share their thoughts on how they could contribute to achieving these goals.
Learn by Playing Activity
In the final session, participants explored the sustainability-themed board game "Sıfır Karbon Şehri." Divided into groups of five, the students gathered in the foyer, where 15 game stations were set up, each with its own guide. The top three winning teams were awarded pencil cases, pencils, and badges as prizes. Through the game, students engaged in teamwork, strategic thinking, and problem-solving, which helped them grasp key concepts in sustainability. This fun and interactive activity allowed students to apply sustainability principles in a real-world context, deepening their understanding through hands-on experience.
